A Public Safety Program designed to protect and locate missing persons due to wandering serving all of Monroe County
Project Lifesaver, a program endorsed by the National Sheriff's Association, locates and rescues people with memory loss and impaired judgment who wander from home. Used with excellent results in many communities throughout the country to find lost individuals with Alzheimer's disease, Autism, Downs Syndrome and other cognitive impairments. Van Buren Township Fire Department is re-introducing Project Lifesaver to Monroe County.
Project Lifesaver's mission is to use state of the art technology in assisting those who care for victims of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism, Down Syndrome and any other cognitive condition that cause wandering.
It is a one ounce plastic holder with a ½" or 1" vinyl band that is locked and worn on the wrist or ankle. It is worn 24 hours per day and is water proof. Locked inside is a transmitter and battery that emits a signal every second 24 hours per day. The signal is not audible to humans.
Each wristband has a unique radio frequency. The signal is tracked on ground within a mile or in the air over several miles until the individual is found.
